I have a Hermann tortoise and he is about 4 years old. Recently he has stopped eating anything we give him, fruit, veg, salad, dandelions and dry food but when we get him out each day he has started biting all the furniture.

He has a kettle fish to sharpen his beak so I'm really puzzled and concerned about why he has started chewing the sofas and wood but won't eat.

Can anyone help?

My first thought is how does he have access to furniture?

Tortoises belong in habitats suitable to the type of tortoise that he is. Even better, they belong outside. Maybe your tortoise is bored. Has he ever been outside?

Hi, I live in the UK so being outside isn't warm enough. Yes he goes outside when we have warm weather but he tends to just hide. We let him roam around the house for a few hours a day so he has exercise and doesn't get bored in his viv all day, hense having access to furniture.

He has a heat lamp and uv lamp in his viv which is on throughout the day and on a thermostat so he doesn't get too hot or cold.
