As I went to feed my tortoise today in the morning, I noticed that it had reinjured itself on an old year old wound, basically she got bitten by a rat and the immediate layer of the shell above her head was effectively chewn off.It appears this happened as she tried to find deeper cover from the heat of the sun and unwittingly got tangled in some rusted wires(that I carelessly left out, my mistake).Any suggestions on how to minimize her pain and help heal the wound?

For context, this is the original wound(the rat bite)

It doesn't look like it is actively bleeding.
Maybe put some antibiotic ointment on it.
Have already done this, tried feeding her but seems to be really scared as she keeps refusing food.

Anything else I should do to help with the healing?Am I to apply this ointment for a week or so or is once today enough?Should I sprinke more calcium in her diet now?

Edit: When you say ensuring there are no sharp edges, how exactly should I go about that?

I would apply it once daily for 10 days, or until it isn't raw.

She may stop eating for a few days since she hurts. I don't know of anything you can do for the pain.

I'll tag someone who knows what to do for most any injury. You can trust her advice.

You will just feel along the edge of the carapace above her head. If it's sharp it might rub a sore spot on her neck. On normal shell you can use an emory board and gently file it smooth.

But you need to wait til it's healed. Even then, you may not be able to file it. It takes a long time for shell to grow. Hopefully, it's a non-issue.
