That care sheet is very helpful thank you, the only issue I'm having is that I live in washington state and when the fall and winter months start I dont think it will be warm enough for him.

Then you prepare him for brumation and he'll sleep all winter!

tortoises don't do well in glass tanks because they don't know why they can't go through it. As said yours is an adult Russian so probably wild caught. I got a new adult Russian recently and he didn't eat for a week, but is now starting to eat a little, not a lot yet. It takes them some time, especially wild caught, to adjust to their new habitat.

This is an old, out-dated myth. Tortoises to just fine in glass tanks. Me and several other long term keepers here have been starting babies in tanks for decades with no issues.

The problem with glass tanks is that they are too small for adult tortoises, and that is what is happening here in this thread.

This is why you have an indoor AND an outdoor enclosure. Use the outdoor enclosure when the weather is suitable. Having heat in the outdoor enclosure makes it useable for more of the year, farther in to fall and earlier in spring. You can skip the heat and the shelter, and still use a secure outdoor enclosure during warm sunny summer days.

That’s actually a myth. Tortoises understand glass just fine. The reason the tort is scratching is because the enclosure is way too small.
Sorry. I didn't read all the responses before I typed in mine. I should have just liked your post. :)
