Sent she was with the mail at a day old and kept with him as she grew, my guess is he was always on her back so it literally did not get to grow into the dome shaped like it was supposed to
I've heard of males mating with females so violently that they seriously injure the female or themselves (or both) does the shell look like it has any healed trauma on it? I'd imagine repeated trauma to the shell can cause spinal damage, especially if he was an adult male and she was a juvenile when they were introduced.

Poor girl. :(
