I have been wanting to make a growth chart for Red-foots for a while, and now with the Tortoise Library site running, I have a place to post it when it is ready.
I would love to get your data to help make the chart more accurate if you KNOW roughly when your tortoise was born (within a couple months.)
What I would need is:
- Your name and contact info
- Your tortoise's name and what race or type of Red-foot it is, if you know.
- When the tortoise was born
- How you are measuring the length and weight (or I can tell you some ways to try)
- Any records you have that show date, straight-line carapace length, and weight.
You do not need to have a record of every week or month- any data you have will help- even one or two data points will help!
Yes, Red-foots grow at different rates, and they will grow differently based on diet and such, but the more data points I can chart, the more accurately we can determine the normal ranges and trends. I'm going to try to get similar data from other groups and people as well just to get as much raw data as possible for this.
The benefits of a good growth chart include helping you determine a rough age for an unknown tortoise, and seeing how your tortoise compares to averages.
If you would like to help, you can post the data here, PM me, or email me (through my profile).
Thanks!
