Hi, my Dad got a tiny baby tortoise in October 2017. His work friend gave it to him from a hatchling. We can’t remeber the species of tortoise he is and my Dad has since lost contact with the man following a job change.

I have included photos. Can you let me know what type of tortoise you think he/she is and if you think it’s a boy or girl.

He/she is almost a year and weighs 136g.

Thank you.

Sorry! I realise I should have posted this in another section. I’ll head over there now to post it in the correct place.

I should also take the time to say hi, while I’m here! I’m from UK, Buckinghamshire. We have an almost 1 year old tortoise who is very cute. We dip in and out for tips and advice so I’m sure I’ll be around asking for info as I need help. Thanks!

Hi Neeny, and welcome to the Forum!

I'll give you my response to the "what is he" question on your other thread.

I don't see that you made another thread, so I'll give you my "no response" response here: I'm notoriously bad at I.D.ing the Mediterranean species, but I'm going to say this is a Greek tortoise due to the little spurs on his hind legs. And I'll go one further and say that it is a Male. Now you watch. . . @HermanniChris is going to come on the thread and give you a whole other response. But you can believe whatever he tells you about the tortoise. He's very experienced with them

Yvonne nailed it. It’s a Greek, Testudo graeca ibera and although young it appears to be female.

Thank you guys. How can you tell male or female? As he/she gets older will we find it easier to identify the sex?
My other post was deleted, probably because it was a duplicate?
