We are in the West Bank New Orleans area.
Our tortoise escaped the yard a week ago and it was the end of the day before we noticed.
Posted signs, went to SPCA and eventually found out from neighbors a couple days later he had been picked up by Fish & Wildlife and taken to Zoo.
Someone sent a picture of the day to local news of the tortoise...
by the time we got to Zoo someone else had claimed tortoise based on what they had seen on news.
We are certain the tortoise taken to Zoo is ours and believe this other person has made an honest mistake. We know we can positively identify our tortoise.
If anyone has any information please help. We do not have information on who has him now.
He is 15 years old, about 80 pounds, beautiful shell (no pyramiding)
We have had him since he was a baby!

I think you should contact a local TV news program. It might make a good human interest story for them.

I believe the zoo has a bit of responsibility here to either contact the people who have the tortoise or give you their phone number. You might also make a police report stating all the facts that you've given us here. Your tortoise might be worth around $500, so the police might look into it.
