About 2 months ago we got a beautiful baby sulcata for my mom for mothers day. Even though she was never a big animal person she always wanted a tortoise. She was so excited when she saw Herman, her face lit up so bright.

A couple days ago my dad finished building Herman's new enclosure. I had a bad feeing about the enclosure from the beginning. I knew it was too big for such a small guy. I even logged on here and was about to ask about what I could do to make it better, but it was so late at and I fell asleep. This evening I was going out to feed Herman dinner when I saw that his enclosure had been broken into. I eventually found the remains of my poor tortoise. My dads dog got to him. I am very saddened at this whole situation as is my mom. All we have left of him is a small piece of his shell. I guess I had to learn the hard way this time. Rest in paradise sweet Herman. You will not be forgotten.

Thank you for your condolences. I would like to get a new one to fill the void but I am still looking for a reliable source for a healthy breeder.

That is sad.. I'm sorry for your loss. My little guy won't be going outside until he is fairly large. I own 2 large dogs (they have a penned off portion of the yard) and there are several large dogs that roam the streets. I always fear that would happen to mine.

Too bad, :( my mothers dog got a hold of my tortoise i brought him over to graze in the big garden they have, i took him in and placed him in the shoe box and the dog thought it was a toy and started gnawing on him on the bed luckily he was fine just a little blood from my dogs gums which scared me, it too a while for him to come out after that scare, i thought i trusted my mothers dog not to do something like that but you can't trust any dog or cats even.

My dogs are never alone with my Sully, however after 3 weeks they have shown no interest in him. Possibly because they are basenjis and have very different dog behavior, still, I don't trust them. Mo stays completely separated from them if I am away or busy. Not taking any chances.

I'm still so sorry. I want to cry for you.

Yes your right. Even the sweetest of dogs cant resist their pray drive :( Glad Your little guy was okay.

Thank you. You are right for being extra cautious for you Tort, every dog has a pray drive so anything can happen. My dads dog never showed any interest before attacking Hermy.
