I would be interested to hear some peoples' experience in keeping hermit crabs in an indoor tortoise enclosure, as a clean-up crew. I'm going to send my son outside later this afternoon to collect some pill bugs... but I remember reading somewhere that someone used hermit crabs? This would be in the Russian tort fort, and maybe in with my Greek, too.

Thank you. I should have searched first... now I feel silly.
Sounds like hermit crabs would not be ideal for the Russians or our Greek. Too dry habitat.

Here is one thread on it. Not sure if its a helpful one or not. I didn't read the whole thing. But it should help

From what I read on other threads, both box turtles of various kinds, and redfoot tortoises can be kept together with hermit crabs. The hermits are more active at night, and since both species have a shell, they are pretty well protected from each other.

Hmmm. I would be afraid my RF would eat those crabs in a second. They love chasing down snails and slugs. May look into it though.
