Hello all, im new to tortoises and this site. I don't have a tortoise yet but would erally like to get one well two. My question is can I keep two russian tortoises in a 6x3x2FT (lxwxh) cage. If that's not big enough how big would you suggest. I would really like to get my cage built and every thing set up first before getting the tort's so they would have a good home to start off in.

even though most of us keep multiple torts of the same species together, they don't really need companionship. my rule of thumb is a square foot of space for every square inch of tort.

Hi Terry:

to the forum!!

I think that would be too small for one adult Russian. I don't believe you said whether or not you were getting adults or babies. An adult tortoise requires a big space to wander around and get plenty of exercise. Is there any chance you can make an outdoor area for the tortoises? Its pretty easy to set something up outside using scrap lumber or cinderblocks. But bear in mind they are good diggers and climbers.
