I'm Lisa and I'm here to introduce "Gammy"; a two month-old Sonoran Desert Tortoise. Gammy is new to this world and I am new to being a caretaker. We are both eager to learn how to have the happiest possible domesticated life.

Thank you in advance for your wise and (hopefully) knowledgeable contributions!

Hello and welcome. Care for DTs is very similar to care for Russians. Sadly most of what you find on the internets and from "expert" keepers is old, outdated and wrong. This is why so many baby DTs don't survive, and why so many adults get bladder stones and die.

Here is the correct care info:
https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/beginner-mistakes.45180/
https://tortoiseforum.org/threads/russian-tortoise-care-sheet.80698/

Using these methods I have only ever lost one, and he was so far gone by the time I got him that nothing could have saved him.

Most important is to keep the baby on damp substrate, offer a humid hide, and soak daily. Correct temps and primarily indoor housing are also very important.

Well, Lisa. . . I'm very disappointed in you. How can you possibly "introduce Gammy" without showing us a picture of her beautiful self? :p

Welcome to the Forum! I have a few desert tortoises myself. Don't you just LOVE those green eyes?

Thank you very much for the info. Extremely helpful
