Hey my friend emailed me for some info because he wants to get a sulcata. He is moving to a bigger house in about 5 years. What is the growth rate of a sulcatas tortoise.

Sulcata growth varies greatly so there's no great answer. Some grow very rapidly and others take a while. It all depends on their personality, environment, and diet.

Hi Alec:

My Dudley has just about stopped growing. Three years ago at around age 20, he was 100lbs. And since that time he gains about a pound a year.

I have a 4.5 year old female sulcata. She is. 18" long and about 45lbs! She is outside all the time and eats more cuttlebone than a macaw!

I have a 20 year old sulcata that's about 115 lbs. seems like his growing still, but yeah idk. He didn't get the best care before and he does now so that might make a difference.

Yeah sulcatas grow at all kinds of different rates so somewhere between 10" and 20" at 5 years old. But 5 years is a long time from now. Its hard to know for sure what can happen in 5 years and your friend might not be able to move at that time. Does he have a backyard currently?
