How many times do Hermann’s Tortoises get their growth lines in their first year?

Good morning tortoise forum,

I had a question today about how many times would my eastern hermanns tortoise (testudo Hermanni Boettgeri) should get his growth lines in his first year. He has got his first white growth lines between the scutes so I am feeding him lots and keeping the humidity extra high. Does anyone have an estimation as to how many times these growth lines occur in their first year or life?

I think it would depend very much on his living and feeding conditions - he isn't like a tree, putting out a line every year - you are obviously giving him a good environment,so probably he will grow really well, and his growth lines will show that.

Every time a tortoise has a growth spurt he adds on some new growth sections. If a tortoise goes along day to day on an average serving of food then one day he has a windfall of an excess amount of food you'll see a bigger growth line. It all depends upon nutrition and every year and every tortoise will be different
