If I have 3 adults females and one adult male, how often should I expect the group to have someone pregnant? How many times a year maybe?

It depends on the female, but 2 to 5 clutches a year per female is possible. Usually the laying season is late winter and spring.

How do people manage population control then? Keeping them apart? Or is there some other trick?

The only way is to keep the males seperate from the females, but groups of females can tend to still lay even without a male present. The best way, though, is to just break the eggs right after they are laid.
