I grew up with having one or two red sliders living in a decent sized pond. I had a few that lived in the pond for many years and had some disappear forever.

I have not had any redsliders in the pond in years and was thinking about getting one.

The pond will soon be upgraded to be at least 3-4 feet deep and approximately 10-12 feet long.

There are a varitey of plants and rocks that surrounds the pond.

What could i do to make the pond feel like home for a red slider? Or even another water turtle species?

They just like to wander. The males go off looking for females. The females go off looking for a good place to lay eggs. All of them go off seeking a spot with more food. The only way to keep them home is to have a big fence around your property (or if that's not doable, at least a fence around the pond.

Just to corroborate. Lost one Mississippi map last year from wandering. Found another in a pond outside the fence. Had to check the fence closely. Found they were escaping under the bottom of the car gate.
