I liked to have a thick, damp layer of bedding for my leopard babies. (Same care as a Sulcata)

I used damp coco coir (the compacted bricks go further than the loose bag you bought) and tried to keep it at least 4-6" deep. They'll nestle into it, mine would even bury themselves in it and even if the top dries a bit from the heat lamp, it's still damp deeper down.
