How about your side of the Deep South? Any problems in your area? Louisiana correct?
Yes, we're in the southeastern part of Louisiana, about 30 miles NE of New Orleans. Here in our immediate area, we're fine. Not even much rain. We're expecting rain from Harvey in a few days, but it'll be nothing compared to what poor Houston Is getting. Now the southWEST part of Louisiana is closer to Texas, and may get some flooding. :(
New Orleans itself may have some flooding at least partly because our pumping stations are undermanned and in poor repair- go figure. But that will still be trivial compared to Houston.:(

Hope all of you, your loved ones, and torts found safe shelter !
Hong Kong got hit by a double-tap. Typhoon Pakhar landed us early Sunday morning, less than 72 hrs after Typhoon Hato...
Probably not as severe, but still a very heavy punch on an already battered Hong Kong and Macau :-/

Hold tight, and stay high up, it will go away.

Cheers,

6 years ago Tropical Storm Lee hit us here at the beach with 24 inches of rain in 24 hours, A whole different situation than what happening to the people in Texas. We lost some roadways and bridges but no long term flooding and no high winds. The excess rain water drained off quickly. I hope they don't get that all at one time rainfall like I saw from Lee .I just saw on tv where they are expecting another 20 inches in Houston by Thursday. Good Luck To All.

Prayers for all of those hit with the wrath of nature.

My sister lives in Houston but was visiting Florida during the storm. Her place is flooded, and she can't get home-- stuck in Tampa until at least Tuesday. Her husband is a physician (pulmonary critical care) at Baylor. They need him, but he can't get home.

Crazy similarity to my Brother (cardiologist) at Oshner in New Orleans when Storm Katrina came. He was away for the storm but requested to come back and help. They sent the National Guard to escort him. He slept in the hospital for 2 weeks.

With all of our technology and science, we still can't beat Mother Nature. We can just try to pick up after her.

Sending good wishes to all of you.

I'm thinking my older brother lives in Houston. Obviously we're very close. I should text him and see that he's okay.
Hey Ken, my immediate neighborhood isn't flooding, but it's sure a mess all over greater Houston. It's going to be weeks before the flooding goes down in some parts.
K***** lives up in northeast Texas, so she'll eventually get rain from Harvey, but just rain. D*** moved to Denver a few months ago.
The eclipse must've been so cool! I'm looking forward to the next one in 7 years that'll track through Texas.

My friend has received mandatory evacuation notice and is now out of Houston and staying with friends
Better on the wallet staying with friends than staying at a questionable hotel or motel for the duration. Make sure your friends understand the need to come up with a daily dollar amount that they "paid" their friends to stay there for insurance reasons.
Hopefully this won't put too much of a strain on the friendship with the extra guests and pets staying with them.

I was out yesterday pulling people out . Got 7 people a dog and cat . The water is moving too fast for this little boat now . There's been air boats and helicopters flying people out behind my house . I'm on higher ground . But the river is about two miles a way . The water is up so high air boats are shaking my house .

So this is likely forum etiquette wrong, but it is one of the things that floats around in what passes for a brain in this here Cowboys head. And please folks, let's keep it clean and on board. If there's argument, PM me but don't funkify this here heart warming thread of true human and animal suffering.
So here's my thinking. I personally see it's very important for a sitting President to visit disaster zones as they are active. I believe this helps show solidarity and a reaching out to the people that they aren't alone and that even the President has seen it.
But then on the other hand, The President coming to an active disaster zone may very well be displacing much needed helpers from the active activities they need to be doing.
For me it's something of a double edged sword, and I'm certainly very happy not to be in the position.
