My friend gave me her pet tortoise a couple months ago because she could no longer keep him, she didn't know what kind of sand he uses though but I was told I would find it at pet smart. About a month or two ago I went to PetSmart and asked them if they had any sand for tortoises and they said no but repti bark (100% pure fir bark) is perfect for my tortoise, well just last night I did lots of research because I wanted to change his bedding this weekend. Through my research, I found repti bark isn't a recommended bedding for him. He has been an inside tortoise for four years, but since he's mine now this summer I'm going to start a project and make him an outside home to live in. But for the time being since it's winter I want him to be comfortable. I looked up cypress mulch since I heard that's good for an indoor tortoise and found some on chewy.com but before I order it I would like suggestions or advice from people who know more about tortoises than I do. Is chewy a good site to get cypress mulch from for my greek tortoise? And what kind of infrared heat lamp is recommended? (Right now I'm using 75W)
Any advice helps! (Also I'm new to this forum so I'm still figuring out things)

Actually, fir bark IS a very good substrate for him. I've used it for years.

Really? Thank goodness because I couldn't find a single person on any site I looked on who said repti barks 100% pure fir bark was good. Thank you for telling me! Is there any specific care I should use after putting in the fir bark?

Take a look at our Greek tortoise care sheet that's pinned at the top of our greek section.
