Hey guys,

ive had my HERMANN Tortoise for almost 2 months now.

at first he was very active he used to walk up and down the enclosure. He used to always try to escape as well from the glass which I found quite odd ? Is this normal?

so now after a month and a bit I changed the substrate from sand to some wooden chips? Lol don’t know what they’re called, ever since then all he’s done is sleep. I bought some daffodil bedding also for him so once I put that in it’s like he doesn’t want to be anywhere but in there dug up in the corner at the top right away from the heat which tells me he defiantly isn’t cold. I’ve played around with the temp to make sure it wasn’t that but all seems normal on that side so I’m just unsure what’s going on? He slept 2-3 days in a row without coming out ? Is this normal ? He’s been eating way less than usual also which I find weird. He doesn’t seem to like being picked up or stroked neither as he always try’s to run away.

can someone let me know if there might be something wrong ?

Lots wrong there. This is all constructive criticism. You can't fix it if no one tells you what is wrong.

  • I don't see a basking bulb. Is there one?
  • I see a red bulb. Those aren't good for tortoises.
  • Water bowl?
  • Are you soaking frequently?
  • Wrong substrate. Use coco coir, fine grade orchid bark, or cypress mulch and keep it damp, but not wet.
  • What are your four temps? Basking area, warm side, cool side, overnight low?
Here is the current and correct care info:

Not sure what daffodil bedding is but daffodils are bulbs which are a massive no no, please check out Tom's. Iist but remove anything daffodil.
As mentioned tortoises are slowing down now but with good heat, light, substrate and soaks you can keep it awake and eating in the day throughout winter which at its age you need to do. Burrowing is normal if that happens.
