I believe I have introduced my self before but I don't post here I just like to read all the info.

My name is Amber I live in Southern California & I have a 3 year old marginated tortoise.

Today I noticed that the bottom of Yoshi's tummy is all purple as if he is bruised, or bleeding on the inside. I gave him a bath 2 days ago and his tummy was normal, the usual yellowish color. Now suddenly he looks bruised ?? He is acting normal, eating, pooping, drinking water. Moving around. But I know there is something wrong because he is purple. The only thing that I can find on the internet that sounds even close Septicemia. I have pictures can any one take a look and give him some advice???

ps sorry if i'm not posting in the right thread or doing this wrong....

It could be septicemia, but in all honesty it could be a number of things, I would PM exoticdr first and dee what he has to say and then go from there. Has he been injured or dropper to the best of your knowledge?

I am not a Vet but that looks like sepsis to me. If he were mine I would be getting him to a Vet first thing Monday. Send the pix to exoticdr here on TFO and have him look at those pictures. I am sure Danny will agree with me...But he needs a Vet asap

No he has never been dropped but he does try to climb things and knocks him self over very often. Ok I am going to try to find a reptile vet that might be open right now, or in the morning. Do you know what causes that, and if it can be cured?

Hi Amber:

A belated "welcome" to the tortoise Forum!!

I don't know for sure either, but in my opinion (and I may be all wet) septicemia usually first shows up in the areas between the scutes.

An exam by a good tortoise vet can put your mind at ease.

I don't know if you should rush rush rush to any vet....please do take him to one in your area that is rep wise....I believe you can search the vet list here in the forum....

I hope it ends up being something minor, if anything at all....

Thank you guys. I went on the vet list and there is not one in my area so I am trying to search one right now. My friend said there is a hospital that specializes in tortoises turtles lizards but I'm having trouble finding it...... I hate the internet, especially when I am upset.

What city are you in someone on the forum might know of one? You also might want to call the local tort rescue and see if they can recommend a vet.

Thank you guys! Kinda good news. I took yoshi to the vet because better safe then sorry right... Well yoshi has sepsis
but the vet says other then the obvious purple he seems healthy, hydrated and well fed. Yoshi is taking antibiotics for the next two weeks. He will also be going to a tortoise specialist in a few days. ( I took him to an emergency pet hospital because I felt any vet was better then no vet.) She made it seem as though Yoshi will be ok because I took him to the vet right away, so hopefully we caught this before it did too much damage. Thank you for the emergency support!!!

it is a very good thing that you really watch your tort, and a good sign that he went into this active and eating. good luck!
