Dear TF members,

We're new(ish) NGO/non-profit operating in the Seychelles and the Western Indian Ocean called the Indian Ocean Tortoise Alliance. Created in 2019, it is only now that we are fully operational (slow but steady) to start our mission to rewild Aldabra giant tortoises on to island where they are missing, in the Seychelles and region. You can find out more about our mission here: www.iotaseychelles.org

For more images/content of giant tortoises being giant tortoises, we also have an instagram account @iotaseychelles

We would value and appreciate any input from the forum, and happy to answer any questions regarding Aldabra giant tortoises in the wild and captivity in Seychelles.

Many thanks,
Indian Ocean Tortoise Alliance (IOTA)

Hello and welcome.

Where do you get the tortoises to put back on the islands?

Thank you Tom,

The tortoises come from a variety of sources; tortoises that have been kept in bad conditions, from owners that can no longer look after them or have the space for them, and potentially donations from larger herds. We would like to work with breeders to donate tortoises as well.
