    Hi my name is Sally,

I live in the UK. I recently got a Tortoise who is called Houdini.

I am excited about making friends with people who have pet Tortoises too. And gaining more knowledge and sharing stories about our pets and just to be apart of a community. I look forward to speaking with you all.

    Kind regards

    Sally

Hi yes they all have own little quirks. I ha e a open tortoise table that also has a lid which is only put on at night as I also have a cat so it's to protect them both really. My lil lady is 7 cm and she's very cheeky. Alot of people follow what pet shops say. But the breeder I got houdini from said she uses soild from her garden making sure there's no animal mess in the area or chemicals. I a. Using a back of sterilised top soil, houdini lo es digging in it and has made a burrow under a log which she's made her bed. https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/tortoise-diet/#.XJDT92mnw0N follow link for some great advice on the wild flowers and plants you can feed.

How high are the sides of your table? Mine are only 8inch so it's difficult to get a good depth of substrate xx the weeds are now starting to grow in my garden so he will have a lovely diet soon xx I'm also growing seeds that I got from 'shelled warrior's offline and some violets to vary his food xx

    Hi

My sides are about 20 cm which gives me enough room to fill the bottom deep enough for houdini to dig a scrape which is what a tortoises nest is called or a cave. As long as yours can't climb out I'm sure it's fine. You can always use an old draw if you want to for a tortoise table. Some people have used an old vivarium and flipped it on its side and used that so that it's deeper. I have added a pic so you can see my lay out. Do t panic thou sounds like your doing a great job. Get some cuttlefish as they bite it and keeps their beaks sharp. Plus full of calcium

I have 2 scuttle fish in the enclosure in case he fancies a nibble I was thinking about making something to cover the top of 1 end so I can just fill it to see if he will burrow.
I will send you a picture of my set up.
    Thanks.

Great!!! Yes that sounds like a plan. Or you could just use a wooden box with a hole for him to get get in and then make a lid so it's easy to clean out. Your doing a great job already. Be adventurous with your enclose. They like plant pots and things to climb over too. Just not high enough to escape.

Your a great help thanks. I feel that's it's slightly cramped I have taken another bridge out and replaced with the log I'm trying to fill the log to see if he digs in there xxx
