Is it cause for concern?

My little RT Lou may have eaten a little bit of red cabbage. Normally I pick it out but I missed it this time

I wouldn't worry. Imagine all the bad stuff they are exposed to in the wild. Heck, I accidentally gave mine broccoli on her first night with me (got mixed up in his bag of greens somehow) but she's still alive.

Should they not have broccoli? Shelldon loves it and right now it's the only thing he's eating. He won't eat the collard greens he used to love, and other than those 2 things he's refused anything else I've tried. And since dandilions are starting to bloom and everyone talks about them like they're a prized possession, I finally found some at a house no one lives in so I know nothing has been sprayed. Won't touch them.

I see a lot of people talking about endive and escarole (?) but I have no idea what that is.

I have noticed that my tortoise won't eat new items the first time I give them to him. But he will eat them the second or third time. Today is the first day he actually ate a dandelion, I was beginning to think there was something wrong with him because I always heard how that is their favorite food but I guess he never read those articles. Endive that escarole are lettuce type vegetables you can get at the grocery store. My tortoise loves them, especially the curly type.

I'm far from an expert since I just got Lou but from what I've read on here continue to mix what you wan him to eat with what he already does and eventually he will take to it. A lot of people seem to argue or debate him but I've found Tom ( one of the mods) to be very very knowledgable. I have never ready anything he's posted that hasn't are sense to me. Check out his threads they are full of great info

I won't feed it to Dorrie. But then again I'm really more protective than I need to be sometimes.

This is from the tortoise table:

Common name : Broccoli ( Calabrese , Sprouting Broccoli )
Latin name : Brassica oleracea (Italica Group)
Family name : Brassicaceae/Cruciferae

Broccoli contains goitrogens that interfere with thyroid activity and could damage the liver and kidneys. Therefore, although Broccoli is not actually toxic, we would advise you not to feed it to your tortoise.

The flowers of the Broccoli plant are yellowish-green when they open out of the green flower heads.
In the case of Purple Sprouting Broccoli the pale yellow flowers will emerge from the purple flower heads.

Thanks! I'm just worried about him starving! If he gets hungry enough he'll eat right?

Dorrie didn't eat for two days other than nibbling. Today she ate like there was no tomorrow. When I ran into the livingroom shouting "SHE'S EATING!!" My husband rolled his eyes and said "I told you she'd eat when she's hungry!"

They eat by scent. Try to break the dandelion greens in half so that they are "open" to being smelled. Try a bit of cucumber. They love that and it gives them the water they need. Don't give too much though because it's not really nutritious. I give her teeny squares of cucumber hidden under the leaves of the greens. You might want to try squeezing the juice of the cucumber over the greens just for an attraction to the leaves.

Today he took like 2 bites of a collard stem so I was hopeful he'd eat more but no go. I'll try the cucumber trick and more variety. He just never gets out of his hide, it's super frustrating!
