Looks like a young female to me. My adult females are substantially bigger than yours.

Russian females usually reach from 8 to 10 inches.

At five inches she wouldn't be considered an adult. That is more of a big juvenile.

I may have said this before, a russian female reaches a size of 8 or 10 inches on average. 5 to 7 years of age is a big range, but 5 inches sounds about right to me.

Without a precise age it is hard to tell, for a female at 5 inches she still has a ways to go.

RE: is my russian tortoise only a juvenile

You have a WC russian tortoise. She's probably somewhere in the range of 6-8 years old but that is just a guesstimate. She's not an adult yet, female russians normally start laying eggs in the 6-7" range.

You asked in the subject line, "Is my Russian tortoise SMALL for her SIZE?" Both "small" and "size" denote the same thing. Now if you had asked "small for her age, or small for her species, or small for her terrarium" we might be able to better answer you. :p :p :p

If she's 4 years of age then 5" is a good size for her.
