Chris, nice looking enclosure for your little RT. Is that a spiral bulb?

Thanks guys, and yes it is a spiral bulb.

The reason I asked is, I have heard some Spiral bulbs can cause problems with reptiles, especially the eyes (an increase of 4 to 8 times the light of the sun - Hazardous UVB- per website below) Tends to cause torts to stay in hides-decrease activity- can cause swollen eyes. Torts tend to try and hide and stay out of this light.
They have found they can cause problems with people. My grandson (who is epileptic) can't be around them because they cause his seizures to increase. Please watch your little one closely.
Here is a site that has some info.

Thanks alot for the advice...he does seem to spend alot of time in his hide. maybe the lightbulb is why.

What would you reccomend me using instead of the spiral bulb, as u can see i don't think i have the correct set-up for a long tube bulb...any suggestions would be greatly apreciated!!!!! thanks =]

There are other bulbs that are heat/uv combos. Megaray is one of them.

I stopped using the uvb bulbs, I just take the ones inside out and let them spend the mornings outside. Mine seem more active now.

I'm using a ReptiSun 5.0 spiral bulb for my UVB. According to the website Crazy1 cited, it's OK. Watson doesn't seem to have any problems - he's out and about quite a lot and his eyes look fine (I've been checking every day, just to be safe).

I used one of the spiral bulbs with no issues from my tortoises, but it really bothered my beardie after only two days, and then took another 3 - 4 days for him to start keeping his eyes open after I took it out!
