Is sand a good substrate for a turtle tank?

I heard they like to play in it. Won't they eat the sand and get compacted though?????

I would def reccomend sand as a subsrtate ,my turtles love digging in it sometimes they even burry themselves lol. But to answer your question the sand gets passed through they're digestive system fine they'res no danger in them eating it.

I prefer to use, and have had much in the way of good experience with, aragonite.

I have used sand, gravel, river rocks, and other (or no) substrates in the past, but the aragonite suits me best.
