I just got some miracle grow organic choice garden soil and I wanted to make sure it would be okay as substrate since its organic soil

Check the ingredients. It may be full of manure! It's natural but not the best for your tort.

What kind of soil do you suggest I use? What kind of ingredients should I avoid?

You can also call or email the company and they will give you more details. I contacted them and got prompt replies. They said the manure in the organic potting soil was pasteurized (that is, heated to kill off bad bugs). I forget what they said about the organic topsoil, but again, they're easy to contact and replied promptly to me.

I use a 50/50 by volume mix of organic top soil and organic peat moss. Holds moisture well, no harm if some gets ingested, easy to burrow in, easy to spot clean and the peat has an acid level that discourages mold growth.

I use organic soil and play sand with some wood chips mixed in
