I picked up one of the babies today and thought this looked funky. Are those white circle type shapes normal? Or is it a fungus?

Thanks in advance,
-Lauren

Looks good to me, but maybe I'm not seeing the white circles you are talking about!

I can see the circles and the last time I saw spots like that I said they were nothing but Danny said they were fungus.
So if you think it might be fungus you should wash with diluted betadine once then several more times thruout the day rinse it with a chlorhexidine solution. You would also need to dry dock him. But you might want to wait and make sure it's fungus before you do all that. Can you take pictures from a different angle for us? The pictures are certainly clear and the baby is just a beautiful color...

I don't remember who posted it, but someone here has a baby Russian tortoise that is a really light color, and you can see all those little white curli-ques all over his shell too. Seems to me I remember Danny saying they are nothing to worry about.

Anouk has those curly Qs too...they mean nothing. If you want, post another closeup shot, but that plastron looks completely healthy to me.

Hey thanks for the responses. I'll keep an eye on it and take action if needed. Here's a couple more pics of Tank. Maybe I'll take some close ups of the plastron later :p

Found more proof for you. If your white circles look like these, they are normal, normal normal!

Tank is beautiful! He still has his egg tooth...did the breeder say how old he was?

Meg- Thanks for the info, makes me feel better :)

The breeder said he/she was 1-2 months old when n I picked him up at the end of June. So Tank is around 3-4 months now. He's so tiny compared to my other two so he's probably closer to 3 months, though who knows because growth rates are different. Oh and I have him in a separate enclosure for his quarantine period, just in case anyone was wondering :)

The pic is fairly recent. He's fed on a rock but hes a light eater and hasn't touched his cuttlebone a whole lot so it hasn't worn down completely yet but its close. It looks more prominent than it actually is. And again I was given an age guesstimate.

FWIW.. an egg-tooth is absorbed and may show "signs" for a few months. What we see is probly just his beak. It is "older".. based on the 'healing' of the yolk-sac.

Candy Brazilian redfoots [ aka cherryheads ] come in a variety of flavors! Some are almost yellow. See my 5 day old.. the 'dark' seams indicate Brazilian..

Not to 'piggy-back' this thread.. [ still absorbing 'yolk-sac' in Nursery incubator ] -

Oh if it's normal, is the white stuff on Marley's plastron also normal? I know that the ones on his shell are but I wasn't sure about the ones on his plastron. Or is this only for redfoots?

Beautiful torts btw :)

Hi! Tank is beautiful and bright. Stu, my Hermanns tortoise has those swirls too. I posted asking about them a few months back but everyone said they were normal on tortoises.
