We were recommended it, it is a mixture of soil and sand, we spray it with water every day and previously we have had wood chips which we were told to switch, is there something better to switch to to keep him safe? The sandy substrate is likely to cause the death of your tortoise. You could just switch to plain coco coir or orchid bark.We were recommended it, it is a mixture of soil and sand, we spray it with water every day and previously we have had wood chips which we were told to switch, is there something better to switch to to keep him safe?

Fine grade orchid bark will work best. Coco coir is safe, but messy for a larger Testudo. Cypress mulch can work if you can't find orchid bark. No soil, no shavings, no beech chips, no sand, no Pets at Home stuff, no peat moss of any kind.We were recommended it, it is a mixture of soil and sand, we spray it with water every day and previously we have had wood chips which we were told to switch, is there something better to switch to to keep him safe?
