This is "Bumpy", the first leopard tortoise I ever hatched. Hatch date 11-25-04 ( 15 years old ). He is very small for his age, and weighs 7lbs:

This is Leonard. He hatched 5/5/18, so a year and a half of age, and he weighs 2lbs.:

Here they are for comparison:

When "Bumpy" hatched, he and his littermates were set up on the carport in cinderblock houses with alfalfa pellets for substrate, Mercury Vapor light for UVB and no water in the enclosure, but I soaked them every other day or so for about 15 minutes.

When Leonard hatched he and his littermates went immediately into a Vision cage with fir bark substrate, a tube type fluorescent UVB light and lots and lots of moisture/humidity:

You're never too old to let go of old, stored-in-your-brain information and learn new stuff. When Bumpy hatched I was Sixty six years old. Yes, I knew a lot, but I learned from this Forum that what I "knew" was old, outdated information.

Please feel free to add your "improved care" stories to this thread.
