Dear Zola, Sapphire, Ernie, Seymour, Dickie and Sherman,

Jacky hadn't eaten all the food but she hadn't eaten a fair bit eventhough she likes me to be there. She had more Kale, mushroom and strawberry when I got back. She's in bed now but I wondered if any of you have had your beaks filed or your claws trimmed. I hope to get her outside soon but I am keeping an eye on her beak and claws.

Like Zola I had a good walk after lunch (I still have a sensitive tooth) where I saw lots of birds including ducklings but I met a couple who were also birdwatching. They told me that a Terrapin had been spotted near the sea wall although I have never seen him. I went back to the cafe and a vixen came to join the diners. I was told that she had cubs and later on her husband came to join her.

Did you see any wildlife Zola? Do you have many other tortoises in your enclosure Sherman? Is there any word about Albertina?

Natrah, Jacky and Angel Daisy

PS: I didn't want to mention beak trimming in front of Jacky
Hello again Natrah - I get my beak filed twice a year, and it doesn't hurt, but I like to put up a bit of a fight - like Jacky probably would !!

Hello Natrah I didn’t know tortoise beaks might need filing, I’ll have to look at that. Dickie has had her claws trimmed before but it was years ago. How would tortoise beaks normally wear down?
I don’t know if Sherman has ever had either done but it certainly wouldnt be an easy job with him! Shermans garden is also known as the rabbit garden but the rabbits do not run loose. They have their own sheds with a small patch to graze. He does also share the area with some hens which he doesn’t seem to mind. Pete doesn’t hear anything about Albertina since she moved but I’m sure she will be well looked after.
The place you visited sounds lovely. We have lots of birds in our garden at the moment mostly starlings with their young who are as big as their parents but still sit there waiting to be fed! They all love the bird bath & sit around the edge waiting to jump in.

Goodnight everyone

Good morning Sue,

I was just considering it for Jacky because she has spent a long time in her enclosure but I will put her out soon and her beak is okay at the moment. If they spend most of their time outside they may not need it and Jacky and Daisy have never had their beaks filed or claws trimmed even when Daisy spent all winter in an enclosure when she had her first lump. As Zola says Jacky will fight and still remember Daisy shoving the vet just before she was hospitalised. The vet said "Oh she doesn't like that! No she doesn't like that!"

Hello Natrah - We went up on Dartmoor today, as it was very sunny, and drove to some of the places we particularly like. It was especially lovely, as the hawthorn was in flower, with white blossoms everywhere. And the bluebells were still out there too. This is my favourite bit of the moor.
Love from Zola xxxxx
P S I love Jacky's art-work, but what is the white stuff ?

Dear Zola,

That sounds lovely and I am pleased to see that your mum went with you. How is she now? It was cooler so no reduction in Jacky's temperatures but she was very content with kale. We have a railway line behind the flat and tomorrow a steam train is meant to pass by. I shall try and get a photo but it may be obscured by railings.

Goodnight everyone

Dear Natrah - I hope you and Jacky have had a good day - it was very grey and rather cold this morning, so I only had a short walk, but it was sunny later, and I went along the coastal path with my dad, which was lovely.
I am just about the right size and weight for my dad to hold with one hand - he holds me and takes the photo with his other hand - he says he hopes I don't grow any bigger !
My mum is ok - she doesn't go on long walks, as she can't keep up, and unlike me, she is too big to carry !
Did you see the steam train?

Good evening everyone,

I missed the steam train this morning because I got the timings wrong but I hope to catch it later. I had a good day but Jacky was quite busy! She had a soak and then she was weighed and she left a little 'present' near the bathroom scales! Later she left another 'present' in her enclosure so a lot of toilet paper was used.

Zola I know you're mum enjoys car rides with you and trips to Tavistock to get your Radicchio. Does she go out every day? Sue how's the house sale going. I hope Amanda and Ernie are okay. Cathie at least you don't have to worry about Sapphire's teeth and I hope Dilly, Razberri and Joe are okay.

Goodnight everyone

Hello Natrah nothing happening regards house other than still sorting out stuff.. It’s not really stuff I can do though as it’s things from the garage which Pete needs to do. It’s all very slow but it’s ok. The roofer man (our neighbour!) is going to do the chimney pots this week to stop any more birds falling down. Another charity is collecting furniture on Tuesday so we‘ll see what’s left after that.

Saw a young albino starling today, first time I’ve ever seen one. I took a video recording of it feeding with all the other babies, which didn’t seem to mind it but they didn’t squabble with it like they would normally do. I hope it somehow survives.

Will say goodnight now, glad Jacky seems well & is leaving you presents 😂

Dear MoggyMad,
I had a starling here in the US last year that was probably somewhat albino. Google changed my photos I got of it to make it look like a regular starling. Even later in the year it was a little lighter than the others in color and easy to spot.. That bird was feisty though and never put up with bullying from the other birds. They're not native here but they're pretty fun to watch and listen to.

Dear Cathie,

Do you have Bulbuls there because they were very common in Malaysia like Starlings are here and even here albino Starlings are rare.

Good evening
All my lovely friends how are you all?
I liked your picture Zola.
How is Jacky doing?
I have been out in the sun. but I'm still unsure of the big old world.
Mum is growing me a raised bed which has mesh over it, so hopefully I will be happier in there. She says it will be ready very soon. I'm never out on my own, mum puts me in a basket & sits watching me, maybe she worries I would fly away lol.

Hello Natrah - My mum and dad take me out every morning, and we go to look at the sea, usually. My dad often takes me out on my own later, in the afternoon, and we go for long walks on the coastal path. My mum doesn't usually come then, because she is a bit wobbly - but if we go somewhere special, she always comes too - I sit on her lap in the car .
Goodnight and love from Zola xxxx

Good evening everyone,

I left a couple of presents for Natrah yesterday to show that I am okay. I appreciate Natrah looking after me and I hope to join you other tortoises outside at the weekend. Please can we have a picture of you in your new enclosure Ernie. Zola I am pleased that you get out with your parents but please look after your mum. How is she today? It seems we have badgers living here as well as squirrels, bats and foxes. Natrah says it's because there is a railway line behind the flat and it's a bit wild.

Goodnight everyone
