Eggs from 6 months ago don't usually hatch -

11/09/10 is the date this egg was laid. BR stands for which female laid this egg. BR means it was laid by my "Brazilian" redfoot - aka Cherryhead.

The pics above were taken at 11:02a today.

Once an egg "pips" I place it into a small plastic "take-along" cup and put it right back into the incubator it had been in.. to allow it to finish hatching and absorbing it's yolk-sac.

The egg seemed very dry so I opened it up just enough to see that the yolk was too dry.. [ that was done right after the pics above ] so I saturated the blue paper towel and then folded up another one for on top and drenched it. There was water standing in the bottom of the cup.

I had a few things going on outside but for some reason I thot I would check just to see if the egg had "pipped" anymore - sometimes they may lay low for 2 days before they continue to "peck-away" at getting free!

A little over 2 HOURS later ( 1:23p ) I opened the incubator.. took the paper towel off and saw this!!!

I have never had one hatch that quick! He must have figured that 6 months in the egg was long enough.

Now.... what am I going to do with a dadburn BLACK Cherryhead redfoot hatchling????? I've been trying to hatch a red/orange, etc. Cherryhead.. not a Black-Cherry redfoot?

I GIVE UP.....

I wouldn't complain about that little guy. By the time it is 8 or 9 inches it should be just about solid black. That will be really neat.

are the blacker ones a color variant? do they come from normal adults? do they retain the coloring into adulthood?

Awesome black cherryhead you got there. Don't see many of those around.

What are the parents like? I'm thinking the dark colored cherryhead may carry the parents' genes.
