Can you take him back with the terms with where ever you bought him, that if he starts to eat, you want him back? Have you tried baby food soaks? Get puréed carrots baby food and add to warm soak water. The whole jar with enough water that it comes to where his top a d bottom shell meet. Sometimes this gets them eating. You might want to try some red foods. Like a strawberry. Even if he's not suppose to have them, if you can get him interested, you can add the stuff he is suppose to have in with it, until he started eating goo and then eliminate the red/strawberry. Is he in an enclosure by himself? If not, do that also, so he doesn't feel threatened. Good luck, hope he starts eating before the deadline.

I know for sure Petco has this policy, but I believe Petsmart does too... if you think your animal is sick they will take it to the vet for you if it is still under warranty. They won't pay your vet bills if you take him yourself, though, they have to be the ones that take him.

Not sure if you got him from either of these places but if so, it's worth checking in to.

Is he pooping? If he is pooping, he is eating. Are you always watching him, to see if he will eat? Give nice long warm soak. Put him in front of food and walk away. Also, try feeding him different areas of the enclosure. Maybe for some reason he doesn't like the area you have the food.

It is very frustrating!

That is sad. I hope he starts eating for you so you don't have to take him back. Is that true the torts from Petsmart are wild caught? If so I am sure it is a huge stress on him. I just wonder how many wild caught tortoises get sick and die from stress etc. I am glad he found you and hope Petsmart takes care of him for you concerning vet care etc.Keep us posted. My heart goes out to you & Elvis.

Wow, you have tried it all. I can't think of a single thing else you could try.:( I hope the place you got him from will take him to the vet and get him well and eating. Then you could get him back. I so wish he would have eaten by now. Good luck, fingers still crossed he will eat, before you have to return him. Keep us posted.

I am not going to recommend it, but it has worked for me with two tortoises. When I got my first red foot he was sick and wouldn't eat ( he had been dewormed and was on baytril for URI). 4 or 5 days later I was worried (this was before I was really using the forum) I decided to force feed. Literally 5 mins after force feeding my tort walked over to his food bowl and started eating. Also did the same thing with a different redfooted who wasnt eating due to being dewormes and he ate later that day also. I cant advise anyone to do what I did but in my opinion a single force feeding isnt as harmful or taboo as people make it seem on here.

called the vet this morning and explained what is happening with Elvis he said we have done everything right, he said there are liquid diets out there but that would mean more stress by gavage feeding him, I weighed him this morning and he has lost 30 grams. The vet said he would take back before warrenty is up :(

Why don't you return him and have them inform you when it's healthy so you can repurchase. I would personally keep it, you probably have more time to spend on its care then they do. Perhaps there is something in your feeding that you could do differently that may entice him to eat. (Don't feed from bowl, feed from floor; diff veggies;etc) I know the Greeks at my work eat more when we put their food bowl directly under the basking. I wouldn't give up on him. They are probably going to end up force feeding it if their vet advises them to, maybe you should try it once and see how it goes.

Elvis went back to the store today :( but they did say they would take him to the vet..their explanation was that he was trying to hibernate :( sad they don't know a damn thing about the animals they are caring for.
