I forgot to tell you that I had my vet check out the torts back in November and they did not have any worms or parasites.

I went and bought red worms today. They did not know what they were and kept spiting them out. I laughed so hard at them. I finally cut one up and Otis ate it. Seymour wasn't to fond of trying one but eventually he tried it but still wasn't convinced he wanted more.

I got them a new soaking dish. new soaking dish.jpg Otis eating red worm.jpg red worms.jpg

Hi! I haven't posted anything on my torts in a few weeks. They are doing very well and LOVE the earthworms. I'm having to cut them up for now. You asked me earlier how big they are and I measured them across but I think you meant length. What is the best way to get an accurate length?

An accurate way to measure your tort is to push the guy head first up to a wall so the Carapace touches the wall and measure from the wall to the back of the carapace in a straight line, do not bend the measuring device to the shape of your tortoise. It's called SCL (Straight Carapace Length)

Ok. I measured Otis the smaller one and he is 3 in and weighes 67 grms. Seymour the larger one is 3 1/8 in. and weighes 78 grms. He did not want to keep his head and legs tucked in.

I have a question on tiny brown bugs that I find in my torts food dish when I take it out to clean. They are about the size if tiny ants but are not ants. I only find a few at a time. Have not seen them on torts or crawling around. They are to quick to get picture of.

Thanks. They don't seem to be a problem so I won't be too concerned then. How often should I change out their substrate? It doesn't have an odor just smells like damp earth.

After much research.......I have determined that they are springtails. I thought that they were supposed to jump but the article said that not all jump.
