Hello,
I soak our two year old Sri Lankan Star every other day for about 30 minutes. Typically he will poop and urinate during his soaks. At his last soak two long white tube shaped poops (?) came out. What the heck were those alien looking things???

A variety of tortoise species pass urates....this passing shows up as a white color...a little like toothpaste texture is fine but if this is gritty then more hydration is warranted....:D.

Hi Angela,
They looked very smooth, not gritty at all. So, normal? Kinda freaked me out!

In us mammals, males have two vents (urogenital and anal), while females have three (urine, genital, and anal).

Like us, reptiles have urine, genital, and anal passages. However, in reptiles all three of these empty into one chamber, which then has only one opening to the outside. This is the cloaca (Latin for "sewer").

Sometimes, if a reptile passes both feces and urine at about the same time, the two may get mixed and come out together. In species that use uric acid (urate) to eliminate nitrogen instead of urea, this may give the appearance of white stool.

Unless this happens a lot, that's probably all it is for your tortoise, too. If it keeps happening, you might want to increase hydration, or take him to the vet. But odds are, it's just a poo-pee mixture.
