Why don't you transplant a some???

They are pretty resilient plants.
If you can get roots and all and move them where you want you can easily get as many as needed. I've done this to one dandelion plant and its worked fine for me. It's a little tough to get them out of the ground sometimes cause there tough lol

I got dandelion seeds from Amazon. You can get pretty much any seed you want on Amazon except for marijuana.

I had pulled up dandelions from the park, roots and all, and transplanted them in the outdoor enclosure for my torts, but somehow I killed them....how could that happen? I mean, dandelions are so hardy, how can anyone kill them if they aren't trying to? Anyhow, I may try seeds, but if I couldn't get the whole weed to grow, I don't have much hope that seeds will work for me. I may just have to do what I've always done, pulled them from anywhere I see them, and feed it to my babies. Somehow though, it seems like my babies don't get as much pleasure out of eating the ones I pulled. Grazing and eating living weeds may just be part of their passion for the stuff.

I've actually heard that dandelions aren't as hardy as some people say they are and need very deep soil to root properly. If your soil isn't deep enough and you transplant one, it will probably die from shock

I've heard too, that the seeds are pretty hard to sprout.

I bought some online from Carolina Pet Supply about 18 months ago and had really good results with them. It did task a long time (over a month) for them to sprout. Now I have plenty of dandelions to feed my tortoise.

Dandelion seed can take a month to sprout?

But hmm mine's taking more than a month already!!!
And they call it wild flowers... Super easy growth... Hardy species...
Marketing campaign :(

If u pull the roots out bare with no soil they tend to die but if u pull them out with a little shovel and it had soil around it their most likely to stay alive. My mother always plants flowers fruit trees and what not. So ill be trying that myself to. Good luck let me know if u try it and it works. I live in Victorville so it's mostly desert out here and not so much grass.

Since marijuana is legal in Colorado now, this sounds like a good topic for the debatable topics forum.

Since the leaf doesn't contain much THC, I imagine lots of animals eat them in the wild. The part of the plant that's smoked is up too high for a tortoise to reach.

You have a point there. Next time, I'll pull up all the dirt around it and put it into a plastic bag until I can plant it into their enclosure. I'll let you know how that works. Thanks.

i would never feed my tortoise cannabis leaves. i know many people who use only the leaves to get the thc. they hay not have a lot, but they definitely have some and that's enough for me not to do it.

feeding your tortoise cannabis leaves it's kinda animal abuse in a way. i think at least. it's illegal to get your cats and dogs high lolll.

Lol please don't take it so seriously. All of us are careful enough not to feed wrong plants to out torts for worry of anything goes wrong to them. But I really a bit curious what kind of behavior will they do if they get into something like marijuana or cannabis leaves.
