Hello,
I’m new to this forum and I am looking for a couple of pond turtles for a 1000 gallon outdoor pond. I have a large landing in the middle of the pond for them to bask in the sun. The pond has a wooden gazebo above it for protection from birds. I currently have some koi in the pond. I really don’t know what turtles would do best in Southern California. Don’t want the turtles to get too large either. Any input on type of turtle and where I could find them would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I’ll let others talk about what kind are best (I don’t know anything about them) but I can tell you if you go on petfinder, most LA area shelters have turtles. Lots of sliders, for sure. I would bet San Diego is the same

Any N American native turtle would do well in your pond outdoors year-round.

Fauna classifieds sells turtles. I purchased my box turtle off of that website.
