Yes, you are correct. CA residents can buy Radiated Tortoises from Turtle Conservancy. The CBW permits are required for sales across state lines, but not are required when both buyer and seller are legal residents of the same state.

How much did you have to "donate" to the Turtle Conservancy for the tortoise?
1200 but it is tax deductible!!! They had some cheaper ones too!

They haven't been given out or renewing private CBW permits for at least three years now, and no sign of that changing.

If whatever you've got going doesn't work out, I know of two sellers in SoCal here. Contact me here on the forum anytime. :)

Good luck!
I would be very interested in getting more info on how to get one don’t have contacts in Cali with them. Was going to get one st the reptile show yesterday but unfortunately they just sold it before I got there

Thanks much for posting this.

@Lolo389 to your original question. There are several radiated breeders in California. And as odd as it sound I find myself 'burnt' by offering recommended sellers. No seller I have recommended has burnt anyone that I am aware of, however the buyer has burnt the seller in at least one case.

Look at @Pets101 among others that you can find on FaunaClassified's. Use their search feature and then look those people up.

Aside from actual breeders here in CA, so folks buy several, grown them up and then sell the ones they think have a less 'pretty' pattern, often these are bought by a CBW permit holder from out of state. That way you get access to other state breeders and still comply with the draconian law.

Anyone can help me with the “ reptile vet info “ required on the TC adopting application? I don’t know any vets specialize in reptiles :(:(

Thank you
Yeah, TFO has a recommended Vet list. Thomas Boyer is good, but down here in San Diego. @zovick has used vets that are now subsequently in your area, I forget the name(s).

@enchilada I have used Dr. Laila Proenza when she was in GA. She left here three years ago to take a position with Veterinary Clinics of America in Los Angeles. She is an exotics vet specialist who is very good and a very nice person as well.

Here is the most recent info I have for her:

Director of the Exotic Animal Medicine Program

VCA Animal Hospitals, 12401 W. Olympic Blvd.

Los Angeles, CA 90064, 1 (800) 966-1822

Associate Veterinarian at the Avian & Exotics Department

VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital, 1900 S Sepulveda Blvd,

Los Angeles, CA 90025 (310) 473-2951
