Crickets will harm the tortoises?
Well I would have never guessed Crickets. I haven't come across any although I'm sure there are some someplace around here.

I have probably hundreds of black widow spiders and I only kill the ones that are out in the open that might harm my grand kids. I know they eat a lot of bugs and even catch mosquitoes in their webs so I welcome them. I also know there are webs inside the burrow as well because I have to clean them off my tortoises back regularly and I hope that any bugs that enter will be captured.

Yes. Many people find this out when they leave live crickets in their reptile's cage over night. Crickets will chew on a live animal, and a cold sleeping reptile just sits there and lets them do it. Ants will eat them alive too. Roaches will not touch a live animal.

Odd fun facts...
