Looking to Get First Tortoise

Hello! I am looking to get my first tortoise. I am wanting to get a marginated tortoise. Possibly a juvenile or adult. Is a male or female better or does it matter? I am currently in the research phase. I am located in Northern California. Where would be a good place to get a tortoise from? Can they be bought year round or when do they start to hibernate? Any help you can offer would be great! Thank you!

Welcome to the forum I don’t know of a marginated breeder around here. Maybe someone else will! I think you will need to order online check the breeder list page on this sight for a good reference!

If you don't want to breed them and are planning on one, I suggest getting a male. The males of most if not all species seem to be more friendly and you don't have to worry about them getting egg bound.
