My neighbor has lost her large Sulcata, and we are all on the look out for him. We live in the Sonoran Desert, in a rural neighborhood of houses on 1 to 10 acres, most of them fenced. But temperatures are dropping down into the high fifties during the day and high thirties to low forties at night with rain in the forecast. How might this tortoise behave if lost in the desert under these conditions? He is 20 years old and apparently has about a 2' diameter. Everyone wants to know how best to look out for him in our travels.

He's been gone for 5 days, the last 2 colder than 70s during the day, and we are worrying for him.

They are most likely to nose into a corner or a bush base for cover. Unlikely it would dig, but possible if it got warm in the sun.
