Hi everyone just wondered if anyone could tell me what’s going with my Female Horsfield who is 6. She is separated from my 5yr old Male but for two weeks now she’s gone off her food and constantly scratches at corner of shed. I thought on Monday I would try them together she seems happier and wants to be with him. Charlie is behaving badly as they do , biting, a bit of ramming as he is a lot smaller than she is she doesn’t seem to mind. At night she’s always in bed with Charlie when she has a choice of going in her own separate side of heated shed. So what would you advise? They have access to outside.

I would only put them together when they're outside.

Hi Yvonne and thank you for reply. I’m so glad I joined this forum , it’s good theres someone more experienced to ask when you’ve got a problem, saves a lot of stress and worry. Think I will go out and put Alice in her own bed now.

They should never live together as a pair. You can put them together from time to time for breeding, but either could harass the other to the point of sickness or injury.

If she's off the food, it might be because she wants out of the area to get away from him. Or cold temps, or hot temps, or when you let them know there is a wide wide world out there, they are less content in their enclosures. They will also do this if the enclosure is too small or too barren. What size is the enclosure?

Well the shed is 4’ by 4’ insulated with thermostat oil filled radiator in. Outside is roughly 12’ by 6’. When I had rescue female 2yrs ago it was fine but last year had to separate them. But since middle of March Alice was constantly scratching and didn’t seem settled, that’s why I thought I’d see what happened if I put them together with me keeping an eye on them. She has stopped the scratching now and seems to seek Charlie out if she can’t see him. They do have their own mob lights as well on timers. Will try attach some photos, don’t know if it will work.

Hi Tom just sending some more photos taken this morning as realised they were old photos, not showing division inside. If I want tortoise to get together I just move one of the breeze blocks to create a doorway. They both have a small doorway to come in and out.
