Hi All-

Newbie here to the forum (long time lurker though) :)

I need some help identifying my Eastern Hermann's as male or female. I got them in August 2015 as hatchlings so they are roughly about a year and a half old. I noticed the plastron is pretty concave (makes me think male) but the tail is shorter (which makes me think female). My other tort I got at the same time is clearly male, but I just cant seem to figure this one out.

Any help is much appreciated!

Thank you!

HermanniChris, would welcome your input as well. Know you are an expert with Hermann's. I'm attaching the pic of my male as well for comparison.

Honestly this is a tough one because the tail of this tortoise is unfortunately bent upward which gives the illusion it could be female. However, the anal scutes are all male. Can you post a photo from above so I can see the shape of the carapace?

Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm attaching a few more pics. I noticed after I took them they are kind of close up, so let me know if you need me to retake tomorrow.

Again, I really appreciate the feedback!

No problem.

That tortoise's shape and featured all point to male. These bent tails in males are common, especially for Hermann's since their tails are so huge in relation to their bodies.
