Hi everyone,

Just wondering what sex my 2 year 3month old Sulcata is. I have a feeling it’s a female, but just want to confirm. He/she should be big enough to sex right?

Thanks,
J

I’ve never had a male sulcata flash but that’s a sure indication that you have a male. The plastron of a female tends to be flat whereas a male plastron tends to be concave making breeding possible with “cupping.

he’s not flashing a penis. That’s actually it’s anus.

That tortoise is still too small to know for sure. All tortoises look female from hatch. When the start to go through sexual maturity, it goes by size, not age. Yours isn't big enough yet.

Thank you. I think it’s plastering is over a foot long for sure. About what or length should the tortoise be, if I measured it’s plastron?

Tortoises, as well as all other reptiles and birds do not have an anus. They have a cloaca.

Your tortoise will need to be 3-4 years old AND at least 14-17 inches before the secondary sexual characteristics that allow us to visually sex them begin to show.
