Hi guys,

My friend is giving me his leopard tortoise. Curious if it’s a male or female?

Any guesses would be appreciated.

I’m thinking male but not sure.

Thank you!!

A better pic of the tail would help. The V tells me more male but the tail looks short like a female. How old/big and is there any fo caving to the plastron?

I don’t have any other bottom pictures. We aren’t sure of the age but based on the size I’m thinking around 5 years.

Doesn’t appear that there is much caving on the plastron.

This one is confusing to me cause the V does seem more male but other signs point female.

I see starting of concave plastron indicating male... tail could still be juvenile and increase in length in a year or so.

You think that because of the tail or shape? Thank you for responding

The tail size/shape is the primary indicator for sexing at that size. The anal scutes can change dramatically over the next 4-6” of growth.
