Hello,

I know its hard to sex a tortoise until they’re older, however I’ve been having people tell me its already a female? The breeder said he was incubated at a certain temp to be a male. I was hoping for that because they’re smaller. I know it;s not certain and either way I’m happy to have a healthy tort! Can anyone tell me so far if it looks male or female? His name is Rex .... He (maybe she) is a 5 month old Eastern Hermanns.62F4FE65-76CD-42EB-98C9-7F6D9592BD34.jpeg

It is a bit young to tell for sure, but it does appear to be tending towards being a male at this time. The tail is getting a bit longer than I would expect to see in a female and the anal scutes are apparently beginning to spread out to the sides rather than pointing straight to the rear as do those of a female.
