My daughter was gifted a what we are told is a Male Russian Tortoise (she had been begging for a turtle for years).
However, she is simply not interested in him or caring for him, and it has all fallen on me. I don't mind, but we travel a lot in the summer when he's most active and I stress constantly about finding good pet sitters and generally that we just aren't providing him a good home.
He seems healthy - and he gets to play outdoors nearly every day were are home and it's warm enough. But winter is coming, lol!
We are trying to re-home him locally, first - but no luck yet.
