Matamata Turtle

So I was looking at my local pet store site, they sell mata mata turtles, does anybody on here have one?

I googled it, and they dont look allt hat attractive i dont think :S

they are awesome turtles but very exspensive here in the states. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I've had them throughout the years. They require a little more maintenance than other species of turtle. Very interesting and entertaining, though. They're downfall is they just happen to expire for no reason at around 4 to 6 years of age.

in the states they usually run like 400 or so.

There are 2 varients of MataMata. The Amazon Varient and the Orinoco Basins Varient

I always thought the Orinoco Varient is prettier. They are redder and thus look nicer and their shell is also more curved.

This is mine. He's the Orinoco Varient:

I only feed it live feeders.
It hunts on it own
You can train it to eat dead stuff by wiggling it in front of it but since I get feeders cheaply, I never got around doing it.

Awesome! I used to want one until the price tag came up. But I still think they are beautiful...thanks for showing us yours...
