Molly's last baby from her 3rd clutch hatched today. I can't believe she produced 14 fertile eggs in one year. What's the record for an eastern, anyway?

Her first clutch was 7 eggs on May 13
Her second clutch was 3 eggs on June 10
Her final clutch was 4 eggs on June 25

Last year she also produced 14 eggs, 8 in one clutch and 6 in the next, but 2 of each clutch were infertile. The year before, she laid 10 eggs, 6 and 4, of which 7 were fertile. She's not even a big turtle.

Great picture collage. I see a lot of good skin color on a few of these. Nice.

In the three years I've had her, her fertility rate has risen, and the percentage of hatchlings that have color on the scutes has gone up. I wonder if it is random, or if she is breeding more frequently. Does sperm get retained and then eggs are fertilized prior to laying, or does it pre-fertilize eggs for future development?

Awesome - Are you going to sell any of them?

Hi sb111cpa:

Won't you take a few moments to start a new thread in the "introductions" section and tell us a bit about yourself?

Sorry, I no longer have them. My colony produced 20 total this year, and they were already spoken for last week.

Steve

It would be interesting to see a documentary set of pictures of various EBT's from hatchling to maturity, to see which ones develop into stunners, and see if there is clear pattern noticeable at hatching.
