And another day with no Easterns lol. I moved to Illinois where they are pretty common, everyone I know sees them all the time in their yards but I go marching through the woods near the river everyday for a week now and not one sighting lmao. I just want some pictures dammit.

I haven't seen any since returning here (and never even saw one in NC, either!). I used to find all sorts of box turtles thirty years ago. I always thought the Easterns were "angry-looking." They were usually in the orchard, whereas the ornates/three-toed would ramble right through the grass out in the sun.

Last year, I helped an ornate across railroad tracks, and met an ancient three-toed that lives in a fenced yard, but... where's all the boxies?? Same with water turtles, they used to be all over the ditches and roads during a spring flood, now not so much.
